Frequently Asked Questions

3D ultrasound is a still image that will show you the surface of your baby similar to a photograph.  4D ultrasound is live video of your baby in motion, much like a movie.  3D images are printed  high resolution glossy black and white or sepia toned photographs or saved on a USB thumb drive.  4D video is recorded and saved on a DVD.  Both 3D images and 4D video are included in our Tate Baby Packages.  Visit our Baby Photo Gallery.

2D ultrasound procedures are what most women receive as part of their regular prenatal care.  2D ultrasound images are black and white and to the average person baby images appear more skeletal.

Our Tate Baby Packages range from $50 to $155.  See our Pricing Page for details.

Since Tate Diagnostic, Inc. is a full Medical Diagnostic Ultrasound Imaging Facility your insurance will cover a portion of your 3D ultrasound ONLY IF your physician refers you to us for a COMPLETE DIAGNOSTIC EXAM AND WE ARE CONTRACTED WITH YOUR INSURANCE.  To refer you, we REQUIRE that your physician provide A WRITTEN PRESCRIPTION FOR A COMPLETE MEDICAL DIAGNOSTIC EXAM.  We accept most insurances.  Please Contact Us in advance to confirm we accept your insurance.

The keys to safety are the qualifications of the sonographer performing the exam and the maintenance of the machine.  Not all 3D 4D ultrasound facilities are regulated nor do they have licensed Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (RDMS) performing exams.  Trained by and or supervised by RDMS is NOT the same thing.  At Tate Diagnostic all of our exams are performed ONLY by RDMS.  Our qualified professionals together have over 40 years of experience.  Since we are a Medical Diagnostic Ultrasound Imaging Facility we are required by law to maintain the operation of our machines to certain standards.  Non-medical 3D imaging establishments are NOT required to maintain their equipment.  Without proper education they may not know if their machine is operating within the safe range.  These non-medical establishments are the reason for the FDA’s concern.

Extensive medical studies have found that ultrasound has not been shown to cause any harm to mother or baby.  Routine scanning of all pregnancies is now a recommended and normal procedure.  3D 4D ultrasound scanning uses exactly the same type and intensity of ultrasound as conventional 2D diagnostic ultrasound scanning.  All use sound waves to look inside the body.  As with 2D scanning, a non-invasive probe placed on the abdomen emits sound waves and absorbs the return echo but the technology that receives and interprets the return echo is greatly improved to generate high quality 3-dimensional photo and 4-dimensional video images.

Tate Diagnostic, Inc. is a full Medical Diagnostic Ultrasound Imaging Facility.  We only have Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (RDMS) who are licensed in conventional 2D ultrasound scanning and then further trained to perform 3D 4D obstetrical ultrasounds.  Our RDMS have been scanning collectively for over 40 years and have performed thousands of scans.  In the unlikely event that a potential abnormality is found during an exam only the mother’s physician, not the mother, will receive the diagnostic report.  The physician will then contact the mother to discuss the report.

With HDGender we can determine the gender of your baby earlier than ever before, at 12 weeks.

The best time to see the entire body of the baby wiggling and moving is 9 to 12 weeks. Although facial structures are limited.

For the best facial photos make your appointment between 24 and 36 weeks. Limited view of the entire baby in one frame. Focused images on specific features (face, foot, hand). No longer able to see emote body however the best time for facial features and facial expressions. 30+ weeks we can estimate the babies weight at delivery.

Our offices  have appointments available Monday through Saturday and we do offer evening appointments.  Visit our Contact Us Page for more information.

This depends on how you would like to see your baby.  We suggest you wait until the 16th week of your pregnancy to have your first 3D 4D ultrasound.  With HDGender we can determine the gender of your baby at 12 weeks. Before 12 weeks your baby is still very small and its features are not well defined.  Before 24 weeks, babies have room to move around a lot which makes for fun video.  However, babies before 24 weeks have more skeletal appearance.  From 24 to 40 weeks babies are developing the fat layer that fills in their features so you will see more facial detail.  Some of our clients come in for their first visit when they are 17 to 24 weeks and then come back when they are 28 to 40 weeks so they can see what their baby looks like at different stages.

In most cases you will.  Only 1% to 2% of the babies “misbehave” and have to return for a repeat visit.  Some babies are persistently positioned looking down or facing towards the spine which makes it difficult to see the baby’s face.  When this happens we may ask that you roll on your left side or right side or do other maneuvers during the scan to optimize the view.  Every baby scans differently depending on gestational age, position, amount of fluid, placental location and characteristics of the mother’s body.  We promise to make every effort to obtain the best images of your baby.  We offer discounted Tate Baby Packages for returning clients.

Yes.  With our new technology, HDGender, we can now tell you the gender of your baby as early as 12 weeks.    We guaranty our accuracy.  Currently we have a record of being 100% accurate, we have not been wrong yet.

We understand that your time is as valuable as our time.  We recommend setting aside 25 to 30 minutes for your appointment.  Your session length is determined by the Tate Baby Package you choose.  The scans for our Emerald and Platinum packages are longer than the scans for our Ruby and other packages.   We request that you and your guests arrive 10 minutes early.  You will need to check in and complete paperwork before your scan.  Arriving early will help us to start on time.

Absolutely!  We encourage you to share your Tate Baby experience with anyone you would like.  This is your ultrasound and it is very exciting welcoming a new little one.  We have comfortable seating 6 adults and standing room for a couple more.
